Parents hesitant to leave low-performing schools

I attended a town hall meeting last night at Samuell High School, which is expected to be low-performing for a fourth consecutive year this summer. The meeting was held to discuss a contingency plan in case the Texas Education Agency Commissioner closes Samuell this coming school year for its performance. However, closure is unlikely due to time constraints, says two TEA spokeswomen. But DISD by law has to do a contingency plan regardless.

The meeting last night at Samuell was the second town hall meeting I’ve attended this week. The other was at Spruce High School, which also has been continuously low performing.

Anyway, what has surprised me is that parents I’ve talked to aren’t too interested in moving their child to a better performing school.
